Minnesota Governor Requires State Contractors to Participate in E-Verify
Several aspects of a new proposal issued by Minnesota Governor, Tim Pawlenty, to combat illegal immigration will have a direct impact on the state’s employers. Required Use of E-Verify According to a January 7, 2008 press release issued by the governor’s office, Governor Pawlenty signed an executive order directing the Minnesota Department of Employee Relations, Department of Administration, and Department of Employment and Economic Development to electronically verify employment eligibility by using the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) E-Verify program. Electronic verification will apply to all new state employees and contractors doing business with the state, and recipients of state business incentives.
